It is a measure of the growth of Be-IT over the past few years that we have been invited to contribute to this year’s ScotlandIS report on salary levels within the digital/computing industries.  Clearly, we were delighted to do so and, as always, ScotlandIS has produced a sterling piece of work which, I’m sure, will be of great interest to IT professionals in this country and beyond.  While the full report is too long to be reproduced in its entirety here, you can find it at the link at the end of this blog. In the meantime, here are the headline figures.

To give some context to the 2016 figures, it’s worth noting that the median gross pay for digital technology occupations and for the economy as a whole in 2015 was as follows:

Salary information from ScotlandISWhen we look specifically at digital jobs in 2016, we can see that there are wide variations depending on location, with London, unsurprisingly, the highest, but Edinburgh also coming in above the national average.

The TechCity analysis produced the following average advertised salaries for digital jobs:

UK:                      £50,000

Edinburgh:           £51,575

Glasgow:              £46,854

Dundee:               £38,069

London:                £58,987

Manchester:         £45,205

Upward pressure on salary levels reflects the competitive nature of this job market – and changes from the 2015 figures in the table above.  Some 57% of respondents to ScotlandIS “reported that they increased salaries during the last 12 months due to pressure to keep up with the competition.”

There are a lot of interesting facts and figures in the complete report.  If you are interested, and I’m sure you are, you can find it at this link
