The February Markit figures - it's getting better!
Posted on 8th March 2017
The Markit figures for Scotland from February are more upbeat than in the previous few months. The screen-grab to the left shows the key changes, always remembering that anything over 50 shows growth while any figure below 50 shows a decline.
The headlines from the report show that we saw the first increase in perm recruitment for five months, while the contractor market grew at the fastest rate for 14 months. In addition, salary inflation is a at a five month high, but, as we all know, this has been offset to some extent by the rapid decline in candidate availability. In fact, as the Markit report notes, "the latest fall in short-term candidate availability was the fastest seen in a year." The other screen-grab (below) shows both temp and perm markets, ranked by sector. As you can see, in the former, IT is fourth in terms of demand for staff, while in the perm market it's second.
More importantly from Be-IT's perspective, we're seeing much the same trends replicated in our business. It's not just busy - it's getting busier. Demand is growing from our clients, creating opportunities for talented candidates. If you're looking for your next career move, why not give us a call?!
