May Markit figures
Posted on 6th June 2017
The latest Markit figures present a picture of an industry that is booming at present, despite the overall low rates of growth in the Scottish economy. I can't improve on what it says in the report, which is:
"In May, growth in demand for permanent staff was at a record high in Scotland. The rate of increase was sharp overall and well above the series' historical average.
Scotland saw a faster increase in permanent vacancies than the UK as a whole for the second month in a row.
North of the border, growth in demand for permanent staff was led by the IT & Computng and Accounts & Financial sectors ...
There was strong demand for temporary staff in Scotland across all sectors. IT & Computing and Nursing/Medical/Care saw the fastest rates of increase."
These are interesting stats and reflect my view of the current market in which we are operating. The table from the report shown here illustrates just how strong the growth in IT is just now. That said, it's still a difficult market with candidate shortages making it hard for recruiters the length and breadth of the country. However, the team at Be-IT are having a Heineken month - in other words, we're reaching the candidates others can't reach, and then after filing the jobs we reach for the Heineken (other drinks are available!).
