Markit August 2017 Demand for IT, perm roles

The latest Markit survey for Scotland shows that demand for staff in the IT/computing in August was higher than for any other sector.  This applied to both perm and contract positions.

However, partly as a result of this high demand in an economy with already high levels of employment (the UK employment rate is the highest on record), it's even harder now to find candidates for a wide range of jobs (and not just in IT).  Again this applies to both temp/contractor and perm positions.

The good news for those everyone in employment is that the current labour market conditions are, albeit slowly in many sectors, driving up salaries.  The Markit report notes, "August saw a further increase in average starting salaries for permanent staff in Scotland," and, for contractors, "a further sharp increase in hourly pay rates in Scotland."

We are certainly seeing all these things at Be-IT.  Even as we continue to grow the company, there is no slackening in demand for our services (which is gratifying!) but conversely we're not seeing any increase in the availability of candidates for many roles.  This puts the onus on us to deliver - but we like the challenge!
