Meanwhile, IT news from south of the border...
Posted on 19th September 2017
The APSCo sector report for IT for September, produced in association with VacancySoft, makes for interesting reading. Although it covers England and Wales and not Scotland, the picture it paints is of an IT industry that is growing and prospering. As the report notes, "While the trend for change in IT vacancies in the 12 months ended 31st August 2016 was almost flat, the last 12 months have seen a distinctly upwards trend." In fact, the growth in vacancies was 5.8% in those 12 months, with Greater London accounting for the lion's share of the market, with nearly half (47.4%) of all vacancies in the 24 months covered by this report.
The regional breakdown outside London is also of interest (see graphic), with the fastest growth (22.7%) being in the East Midlands, although that area only accounted for 3.7% of all vacancies in England and Wales.
Also of major interest to all recruiters, both north and south of the border, is the breakdown of vacancies by IT specialism, shown on the graphic below.
Development & Engineering showed the most substantial growth (13%), while the second highest growth (9.1%) came from IT Management. While we're obviously depending on the sectoral definitions used by VacancySoft (whose figures are based on [cleaned] data from job-board vacancies advertised in England and Wales), this is nonetheless an interesting analysis which we believe is of interest to many clients and candidates, especially those who have an interest in careers south of the border.
