How's the IT jobs Markit doing?
Posted on 10th December 2018
It seems that every month we report the same thing. And yes, as you can see below, the November Markit/RBS report on the jobs market shows that IT is STILL powering ahead, particularly in perm vacancies (and the contractor market is not shabby either).
As always, the devil is in the detail. More specifically, the commentary accompanying the report notes: "Labour supply continued to deteriorate ... with candidate availability falling for both types of staff in November. The fall in permanent staff availability was substantial and the most marked in nine months."
This is reflected in upward pressure on salaries, which grew sharply for perm staff in November in Scotland, although at a lower rate than for the UK as a whole.
However, there are some signs of the jobs market's rate of growth softening across the economy as a whole. Those who peruse the warning signs from the international economy tell me there are some other indications that things could get tougher in the next few years, but in the meantime I suspect that it's steady as it goes for the foreseeable future, which means, as far as Be-IT is concerned, that we'll still be working very hard to find those hard-to-find candidates for even more clients in 2019.
