Three years, two babies, two promotions, lots of excitement!
Posted on 19th September 2019
It was three years ago today that Be-IT opened in Glasgow, with just two people, Nikola Kelly and Sean Gilger. We announced this back in 2016, alongside the news that Be-IT had just increased its turnover threefold, to £6M, and both Sean and Nik featured in blogs that made glad confident noises about the future…
A lot has happened in that time. Nik had (another) baby as did Sean (or rather his wife did). Sean looks a lot older while Nik, naturally, hasn’t changed at all. But equally importantly, they – and the others who joined them - put down the foundation that has led to Be-IT once again doubling turnover (to c. £14M) and we have had to move offices twice in Glasgow to accommodate the 16 people we now employ there.
Sean remembers that at the start he wasn’t sure where it was all going..
“At first, we thought we were just going to work remotely, but then we got a tiny box room in a Regus office – the proverbial ‘no room to swing a cat’ place – and then in the first six months we began to put down the foundations that have given us the platform to build the business to where it is today. Nik’s been key to all this: she was quickly promoted to MD and has brought in a lot of really good recruiters and resourcers and we have some fantastic clients. I believe that the reason we’ve grown and been so successful is simple: we do a good job for our customers AND our candidates and as a result the business growth naturally happens. Be-IT gets the balance right and we have a wide variety of clients which offers more choice and opportunity to the candidates. Another reason that we’ve done well is that this is a great place to work. For me, the three years have gone by very quickly and I’ve really enjoyed it, working with great colleagues.”
Nikola is not the only person to be promoted. After three years at the coalface, playing a key role in getting the aforementioned new clients on board (and, Nik says, “being one of the best recruiters I’ve seen who is comfortable with both clients and candidates,” I’m pleased to say that Sean has been promoted to a manager’s role and starts next Monday with a new team of four, including two new arrivals (of whom more will be revealed in the next few weeks).
Overall, I can’t speak highly enough of the job that the team in Glasgow has done over the last three years. No pressure guys, but let’s see what we can do in the next three years
