Working in the Data Space globally? Online event
Posted on 7th April 2020
Firstly, a date for your diaries – Friday, April 10th, 3.00 pm UK time.
Secondly, if you are in any way involved in developing the productive and profitable use of data, whether globally or locally, here’s why I think you should be involved…
Brian Booden is the MD of DataGlow IT, a business intelligence consultancy that spans multiple industries to maximise their productive use of data. For the last 15 years he has been working with Qlik, the global BI Data consultancy, receiving their “Luminary” award for the past five years running.
Part of his work with Qlik has involved Brian and two of his Qlik Luminary colleagues; Andrew McIlwrick and George Beaton, running Qlik Meetups at venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow. For obvious reasons, these meetings can no longer take place, so Brian floated the idea of a series of virtual meetings, tagging a number of the world’s key data specialists on LinkedIn to gauge response.
To put it mildly, he has been staggered by the feedback. Within a day, his post was trending, with over 12,000 views, 100+ likes and numerous comments.
Many of those comments and a significant proportion of the likes came from some of biggest names working in the data space globally. Brian and his colleagues have been working with Qlik directly to get a major webinar event up and running, using their tech infrastructure to support this initiative, help foster interest and get the big data hitters involved.
All this work is now reaching fruition, with the first QLIK VIRTUAL MEETUP SCOTLAND, scheduled for Friday, 10th April, between 3.00pm and 4.30pm UK time. There are two exceptional speakers who will attract a wide audience:
Elif Tutuk - AVP of Innovation and Design @ Qlik
Stephen Redmond – Qlik Luminary and Studio Lead, Enterprise Insight Studio @ Accenture
You can register HERE
We are promised a barnstorming session, with our two guests leading on…
Elif Tutuk is heading Innovation and Design team at Qlik R&D. She is an experienced product person in analytics area with diversified background; product management, product design, development and research. Elif will discuss Roadmap and Qlik’s vision for combined value of data integration and analytics. She will share some of the recent research projects focusing on new data analytics capabilities with intelligent data analytics pipeline.
Stephen will give a little history on pie charts, describe a set of experiments that compare the performance of pie charts and horizontal bar charts with various visual cues, and give some leading practice advice as to how to create good, understandable data visualisations.
I think it’s important to stress that this is a Scottish-led, internationally significant virtual meet-up fronted by Brian, but also to note that his team’s intention is to go back to the physical, face-to-face meet-ups when the crisis has abated sufficiently to allow them to do so. However, if, as I expect, this first one proves successful and garners enough interest, then Brian will continue to roll out more of these webinars over the weeks and months to come. I understand his intention is to run a series of events, carefully curating speakers and topics so there is something for everyone. I am certainly going to be tuning in on the 10th and if you are involved in the data space then I suggest you to do so too.
