Cooking with Gas: the February Markit Report
Posted on 8th March 2021
The February 2021 RBS/Markit report for the recruitment market in Scotland is the most positive we’ve seen since the start of the pandemic. Even some of those areas of the economy which have been really hammered (how many times have I thanked God that we are not recruiting for Hospitality or Retail…) are now showing some positive signs of revival.
The index as a whole is back above 50 (the level that shows growth) for the second month in a row for perm jobs, with a better performance in February than January. On the temp side of the ledger, things have been better for some months, so, hopefully, better days are returning for the recruitment industry as a whole.

Looking at IT, the picture is very healthy indeed now – as shown in the table above. The uplift in perm jobs is particularly pleasing and it reflects very much what we are seeing on the ground at Be-IT. Despite the pandemic, we are currently as busy as at any time in our comparatively short history and, while there will doubtless be some setbacks along the way, the pattern of growth now seems well entrenched. Even though we are busy, we have the capacity to take on more roles yet, so if your company is struggling to recruit then get in touch and we’ll be delighted to help.
