Be-IT Resourcing are currently working with a large software and analytics company based in Glasgow. They are seeking a Graduate Software Engineer who will participate fully in all the companies R&D activities. They will be involved in the development and support of Engagement Management product releases. The Graduate Software Engineer will work within the engineering team in order to develop new product features, identify and resolve quality issues and handle product support requests.

Develop key skills and knowledge of our client. Identify related components and check for completeness of solutions, seeking assistance where required.  Ensure quality of the feature being delivered, testing its functionality before it is verified / tested. Ensure the functionality is tested and working properly before final release. Promote new functionality to team and wider audience. Consult with product management and quality assurance for clarification of requirements and timescales. Development of product enhancements within agreed timescales. Participate in team meetings. Participate in internal departmental activities – API / build reviews. Participate in external departmental activities - University / industry engagements. Identify, highlight and if possible resolve issues - otherwise escalate issues to senior team members. Report daily progress of your tasks to your team lead. Provide appropriate and regular communication to all relevant parties. Provide regular updates about self-development and learning needs to mentor / line manager

Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of object-oriented analysis, algorithm design and J2EE design patterns;
  • Design and development experience in Java 2 Platform technologies (J2EE, EJB) and web application servers;
  • Development experience with: J2EE, EJBs, AJAX, SQL Server (fluent with SQL programming, Stored Procedures), JSP or Servlets, XML, HTML, JavaScript, Hibernate, Spring, C#;
  • Understanding of both web client side and server-side development;
  • Good understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Awareness of benchmarking and optimization
  • Experience of software development within a team
  • Experience of an IDE e.g. Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA
  • Experience of version control systems e.g. Subversion, CVS, Git
  • Experience of software debugging
  • Experience of root cause analysis
  • Experience of a Windows operating system
  • Experience of unit testing and TDD
  • Experience of continuous integration systems
  • Understanding of software development life cycle methodologies
  • Understanding of RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server or MySQL
  • Knowledge of JEE
  • Knowledge of web application development
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility concern
