Interested to work with 1,000 rare and endangered animals?  Come and work on the delivery of complex, business-wide IT projects across business units for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Edinburgh Zoo is one of Europe's leading centres of conservation, education and research. The Zoo works collectively with many other zoos and conservation agencies in the UK, Europe and around the world in co-ordinated conservation programmes, to help ensure the survival of many threatened animal species.

You will have a desire and drive to make a change and influence technology at one of Scotland's most popular visitor attractions.

You will come from a background of successfully delivering multi layered projects as a proven IT Project Manager in Prince2 / ITIL environments.

Role and Responsibility

Key Dimensions & Strategic Scope – You will operate at a senior level while having the freedom to make operational decisions about the deployment of resources to achieve targets.  You will analyse requirements and advise on scope and options for operational improvement

Business Skills – You will be able to communicate fluently with colleagues and customers.  Keep up to date with changes in your area of expertise, rapidly absorbing new technical information and applying it effectively.  Be responsible for and take initiative for your own personal development.

Complexity – You will be comfortable to perform complex technical, professional or financial activities.  Undertake work which requires the application of principles in a wide range of contexts.  You will be self-initiated within broadly defined areas of responsibility.  You will be an expert in your technical or professional area and apply this knowledge to RZSS’ activities.  Provide advice on your area of expertise and mentor more junior colleagues. 

Autonomy – You will work under broad direction.  Be comfortable being responsible for managing the work of others and the allocation of resources.  Be accountable for your own technical, project or supervisory responsibilities.  Able to establish own milestones and deadlines and team objectives and delegate responsibilities

Technical Roles – You will be a subject matter expert and demonstrate leadership within your own discipline/s. 

Core Responsibilities – Prepare and take ownership for all project controls, resource plans and related reporting, ensuring these are aligned to project goals and outcomes.  Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient scoping of all projects, keeping them updated as to progress and ensure effective and efficient delivery and implementation.  Analyse and document existing procedures and user requirements using various techniques (e.g. workshops, 1-2-1 interviews, PMI, MoSCow), scoping and advising on the design of new business procedures.  Working with internal stakeholders and third-party IT teams on business system design and ensuring final delivery is tested and aligned to business requirements.

You will work with developers to define and document questions, liaise with the business to obtain new requirements, or refinements and review/explain feasibility of any changes.  Build positive relationships and communicate effectively, with colleagues and external supporters.  Communicate between technical and non-technical staff.  Be able to explain complex technical issues in comprehensible terms.  Submit project status reports, host and document regular meetings at both user and strategic level, review bugs, be involved in testing, planning software releases, anticipate and react to change.

Ensure documentation for all tasks undertaken is updated and appropriately stored.  Ensure compliance with relevant RZSS’s policies, procedures and guidelines, together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements (e.g. Child Welfare; HR; H&S; Sustainability; Zoo Licencing Act).  Perform other reasonable duties and/or projects as directed by your manager.

Technical Competencies - Project Management knowledge; Excellent analytical skill; Good interpersonal skills.  Understanding of the regulations that apply to accreditations such as ISO27001, ISO9001, PCI-DSS and GDPR.  Good working knowledge of Microsoft Server stack (Server| SQL| Sharepoint| Exchange Online).  Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and PowerBI.  Knowledge of Sage200, MicrosPoS, Raisers Edge and Microsoft Dynamics                    

Experience - Experience of working across a wide range of stakeholders, and able to demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of good working relationships.  Experience of ePOS/Retail Admissions systems, CRM and Business Intelligence projects and line of business applications.                 

Qualifications - Degree-level or post-grad qualification or equivalent experience, Project Management qualification/Prince2
