Senior Network Support Engineer (Project)
Take a lead technical role in implementing delegated network support projects associated with an
Information Security Action Plan and support the Systems, Data and Voice Infrastructure to ensure an
appropriate environment for the development and maintenance of business critical ICT systems over all
Develop and support a centralised and distributed ICT Infrastructure including availability,
recovery, access control, security, software distribution and operating system support, by
taking a lead technical role in managing projects relating to the ISAP
Develop ICT server infrastructure by taking a lead technical role in managing projects relating to the ISAP
and business applications.
Manage and support the design and change control systems, involving ICT Infrastructure.
Manage and support local area communications networks to meet the current and
future business needs.
Manage and support voice and wide area communications networks to meet the current and future needs.
Manage and support secure Internet Services to meet the current and future business needs.
Work closely with the Senior Network Support Engineer to ensure all elements of the ISAP plan are implemented.
Deputise for the Network Support Manager as required/requested.
To be committed to good health & safety and access practice and ensure familiarity with
health & safety and access policies, procedures and guidelines.
Planning and coordination skills to organise resources in order to deliver projects.
Ability to make important decisions in order to plan appropriate infrastructure design for solutions that
integrate within the ICT network.
Decisions on suitable systems and both wireless and cabling infrastructure topologies for Local and
Wide Area Network, ensuring industry standard deployments.
Decisions on security implications of system configurations and provide suggested solutions.
Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in order to rectify ICT Infrastructure problems.
Decisions on when external support is required to provide advice or support on ICT projects.
Expected to provide advice or other appropriate assistance to colleagues in the
absence of the Network Support Manager.
To deliver the required actions from the ISAP on time
To manage any other infrastructure projects within departmental expectations
To maintain the security and integrity of the network.
To react quickly and provide solutions to ICT problems.
Qualified with a relevant degree or equivalent level qualification or substantial experience in a
computer related discipline.
Up-to-date, broad knowledge of ICT Technologies, including operating systems, virtualisation,
desktop applications and cable and wireless infrastructures and standards.
Knowledge of Microsoft Server Infrastructure to Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
standard or equivalent.
Knowledge of IP Telephony Technologies and implementations
Knowledge of Cisco Technologies to Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) standard or equivalent.
Knowledge of formal project management methodology
Ability to provide technological recommendations in line with planned business direction
Ability to advise technical staff and diagnose technical faults.
Able to maintain composure in pressured problem solving circumstances.
Ability to organise own workload and ensure workflow to other members of the department.
Experience of working with Microsoft Server infrastructures (latest Server version)
Experience of working with Microsoft Hyper-V virtualisation
Experience of working with large volumes of data storage
Experience leading small teams on infrastructure projects
Experience working with customers/stakeholders to define project parameters and provide
technical guidance on solutions
Experience working to tight deadlines and to defined budget.
Experience of producing technical documentation.
Experience of VLAN management within a large infrastructure.
Experience working with Wi-Fi environments
Experience of working with outside contractors and service providers.
Experience of managing and supporting IP Telephony.
