We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Oracle Engineer with extensive development and some DBA experience to. Bringing these core skills and a drive to take on new challenges, you will have the opportunity to build your career and expand your technical skillset as we continue our journey into continuous delivery and full stack AWS design and build. We are looking for a problem solver that can innovate and enjoys overcoming problems.

We are looking for an experienced Engineer with excellent knowledge of database and data manipulation technologies. This Engineer will use these skills to build and support a mixture of cloud native and more traditionally deployed services, using continuous delivery techniques underpinned by instrumentation that not only monitors performance, but also compliance. 

Tasks

  • Managing change across a suite of Data stores - looking for cost effective, performant and technically strong methods to get data into the hands of our internal customers faster and safer
  • Embedding automation and a test-driven development approach across our data stack.
  • Taking the lead as part of a close-knit devops team, using your problem solving and communication skills to get to the bottom of service problems quickly and effectively
  • Engaging with our Domain Architects, IT Risk and IT Security teams plus key suppliers to ensure the services we design and engineer are secure, scalable, performant, resilient, optimised and compliant.
  • Identifying new engineering standards and patterns including the creation of code artefacts that support broad re-use across engineering teams.
  • Engineering new complex data services, that exploit public cloud infrastructure and platform services plus cloud native design patterns serve.
  • Implementing instrumentation as part of the design of new cloud services that ensures we can continuously monitor and report on the compliance of services against our key controls.
  • Working closely with our Cloud Engineering Leads and Product Managers to maintain and prioritise our backlog, develop stories and acceptance criteria, to plan and estimate future sprints.
  • Engineering new complex data services, that exploit public cloud infrastructure and platform services plus cloud native design patterns serve.

Skills and Experience

  • Oracle 11g+ Development experience (3+ years)
  • PL/SQL
  • Performance tuning in large volume environments
  • Ideally with some DBA skills for environment design, management and hands on
  • Experience of ETL and Batch design
  • Ability to breakdown and solve complex technical problems across multiple technology domains.
  • Ability to guide technical direction across one or more technology domains including helping to set our technology roadmap.
  • Experience of large enterprise environments including testing of new digital services integrated with traditional systems of records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders at all levels.
  • Awareness and understanding of financial services and data protection regulations and well as security good practices.

Desirable

  • Experience in automated deployments and testing. Ideally Jenkins, Ansible & Git.
  • Knowledge of Cloud-based database deployments (including NoSQL variants) preferred
  • Enthusiasm and passion for using public cloud platforms and high levels of automation to help the business build new innovative services.
  • Proven hands-on experience of AWS and hold one or more AWS professional certifications preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience of agile working practices and automated testing methodologies including test driven development (TDD).
